Seven promises to liberals.

26 Jul

It’s no secret that liberals and conservatives don’t get along. But, if there’s any one thing that we’ve learned from the liberal love of sensitivity classes and situation comedies, it’s that once people get to know each other and learn about each other’s beliefs and concerns, all legitimate differences melt away. So, with that in mind, I’d like to relieve the concerns of our liberal pals by telling them what we conservatives are really like. Think of it as sensitivity class – for liberals. Granted there may be a few conservatives here and there who disagree with me on these things, but as someone who has known conservatives all my life, I can assure you that they’re the exceptions, not the rule.

Cut, Cap and Balance the only plan able to keep our AAA rating

16 Jul

Colin Hanna via Townhall.com

The President insists on tax increases, and the Republicans insist on no tax increases.

The House Majority Leader insists on cuts greater than any debt ceiling increase, and the House Minority Leader insists on no entitlement changes.

The Senate Minority Leader proposes ceding Congress’ authority to the President to determine where the cuts will be, in the hope that he will also own the political fallout.

It’s a stalemate, and the world financial markets watch expectantly but nervously for some sign of a responsible solution.

The Wall Street Journal reported that “the cost to insure U.S. sovereign debt against default rose nearly 8% Thursday after Moody’s Investors Service said it was reviewing the nation’s top-notch Aaa credit rating for potential downgrade in after-market hours Wednesday.” Read the rest of this entry »

Call His Bluff

15 Jul

By Charles Krauthammer, Published: July 14

President Obama is demanding a big long-term budget deal. He won’t sign anything less, he warns, asking, “If not now, when?”

All of a sudden he’s a born-again budget balancer prepared to bravely take on his own party by making deep cuts in entitlements. Really? Name one. He’s been saying forever that he’s prepared to discuss, engage, converse about entitlement cuts. But never once has he publicly proposed a single structural change to any entitlement. House to Vote on Lightbulb Law Repeal

09 Jul

Erika Johnsen Web Editor Townhall.com

One of the most personally intrusive, regulation-happy green bills that ever passed through Congress, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 made the sale of most incandescent light bulbs virtually illegal by January 1st, 2012. The bill imposed arbitrary efficiency standards that the producers of traditional light bulbs couldn’t hope to meet, making their more expensive, less reliable Compact Fluorescent Light bulb (CFL) cousins the new standard. So, goodbye consumer choice, hello government oversight.

Thankfully, the House is finally making moves to repeal this – at best, ill-thought-out; at worst, you-will-go-green-and-you-will-like-it – law. On Monday, expect to see a vote on the Better Use of Light bulbs (BULB) Act, meant to reverse the 2007 law’s provision on banning incandescent bulbs.
